PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK
Position is responsible for assisting in installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead or underground electrical distribution lines and related components of the municipal electrical distribution system. Position is subject to 24-hour call, and work is sometimes hazardous.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school, knowledge of basic electrical principles, and experience related to the maintenance and installation of electrical distribution equipment; or equivalent training and experience.
SPECIAL NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license needed to apply. Must have valid Louisiana driver’s license upon appointment. Must obtain Louisiana Class A CDL license during the working test period (first six months).
APPRENTICESHIP
Positions in this class may be assigned to an apprenticeship as defined by Civil Service Rule IV, Section 6, which requires completion of initial and ongoing training requirements as established by Lafayette Utilities System within two years for continued employment.
TYPE OF EXAMINATION - Examination will be a multiple-choice exam.
