PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK

This non-entry-level position supervises and participates in construction, operations, and maintenance of the communications system, as well as troubleshooting and repairing service and system problems.  Is subject to 24-hour on-call.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of vocational technical school in electronics, telecommunications or a related field with substantial experience in the construction and maintenance of fiber optic communications systems. Knowledge of construction standards, specifications and regulations affecting fiber optic projects, operating characteristics, installation and testing of DS3, OC-3, OC-12, OC-48 and DWDM equipment. Experience with Ethernet and Internet Protocol.  Ability to install, replace and troubleshoot SONET equipment. Experience splicing single mode fiber

TYPE OF EXAMINATION - Examination will be a multiple-choice test.
