NATURE AND PURPOSE

Position is responsible for performing skilled, independent work in response to trouble or service calls from electrical utility customers.  The objective is the effective performance of a variety of installation, repair, and replacement work on calls passed on by a dispatcher, or problems discovered by power line patrols.  Work involves diagnosis and problem solving of a variety of power distribution problems in the field.  The incumbent works independently and, when necessary, may supervise the work of a line crew called out to help correct a power problem.  The work is subject to review by a technical superior. Position is subject to 24-hour call and work is sometimes hazardous.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school, supplemented by formal training courses covering electricity, meters, relays, high-voltage transformers, and related equipment; and considerable experience in overhead and underground electrical distribution work, including some experience supervising the work of others; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Applicants must have at least a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or CDL permit to apply and test, but must obtain a Louisiana Class A CDL with air brake and combination endorsements prior to hire.

TYPE OF EXAMINATION - Examination will be a combination of a written test and a performance test.
