PURPOSE AND NATURE OF WORK

Position is responsible for performing civil engineering and technical tasks, in field and office, including but not limited to, survey instrument operation, residential and commercial construction inspection, development review and related civil engineering tasks.  Assist party chief in locating monuments to establish boundary and right of way lines. Assist Civil Engineering Spec I with surveying projects. Set up and operate a variety of surveying instruments, ex. GPS, total stations, data collectors. Reads maps and drawings to locate points, property corners in field. Sets grade for drainage projects. Uses equipment to determine elevations for engineering projects. Measures land to make topographic maps of ditches and road profiles. Makes drawings of points gathered from the field. Assist Lafayette Police with fatal traffic accident surveys.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Land survey experience desired. Vo-tech degree in Civil Engineering Technology with experience in surveying and construction management strongly desired; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

TYPE OF EXAMINATION - Examination will be a multiple-choice test.
